Il viaggio a Parigi di Silvio d’Amico

Silvio d’Amico’s journey to Paris. Silvio d’Amico is often remembered solely as a person who made the italian theatre conform to a standard, having deep influenced its path in years when bureaucratic structures, which are still in existence, were created. However, throughout the uneasy gap between what he actually achieved and the need for a different and more radical reform, we may perhaps discover an aspect of d’Amico which is far more complex than what may sometimes be deducted from the results he obtained. Documents preserved in the d’Amico Collection, situated at the Museo Biblioteca dell’Attore in Genoa, reveal particular moments of his efforts to reform acting schools. These moments are here traced from the journey that, in 1927, led him to Paris to visit the Conservatoire. Through the examination of his different projects for the renewal of the Italian theatre, it is possible to uncover also the meaning of the foundation, in 1939, of his Compagnia dell’Accademia.

Per la profonda influenza avuta sul nostro teatro in anni in cui si definirono assetti burocratici che durano ancora oggi, Silvio d’Amico è spesso ricordato solo come il normalizzatore della scena italiana. Ma nella tensione tra quanto il critico ottenne e l’esigenza di una riforma diversa e più radicale si può forse ritrovare un’immagine di d’Amico più mobile e inquieta di quanto i suoi stessi risultati lasciano, a volte, supporre. Tramite documenti custoditi nel Fondo d’Amico, presso il Civico Museo Biblioteca dell’Attore di Genova, si osservano qui da vicino alcuni momenti del suo percorso di riforma delle scuole di recitazione, a partire dal viaggio che, nel 1927, lo portò a Parigi per visitare il Conservatoire. Guardando alle diverse stesure dei progetti di rinnovamento, si ricostruisce qui anche il senso della fondazione, nel 1939, della sua Compagnia dell’Accademia.
