This article aims to deconstruct the image of the “apolitical man of letters” associated with literary critic Emilio Cecchi by analyzing the articles he wrote between 1918 and 1925 for the Italian newspapers La Tribuna and the British The Manchester Guardian. Cecchi’s participation in World War I prompted a heightened awareness of his role as an intellectual, leading him to engage in political journalism during a tumultuous period in Italian history. Following the war, he was sent to London as a representative of the Italian Foreign Action bureau, initiating a collaboration with Charles P. Scott’s newspaper. By intertwining the analysis of unpublished English and Italian articles with that of untapped sources in the Cecchi Archive, the article will delve into his journalistic ethics, conception of liberalism, and interpretation of events from the Treaty of Versailles to the rise of fascism.

Abstract
By intertwining the analysis of unpublished English and Italian articles with that of untapped sources in the Cecchi Archive, the article will delve into his journalistic ethics, conception of liberalism, and interpretation of events from the Treaty of Versailles to the rise of fascism.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
