Il Forte romano di Bewcastle in Britannia: quattro lucerne

Due to an in-depth research of the archival documentation preserved in the Tullie House Museum & Art Gallery Trust, Carlisle (UK), it was possible to study four lamps found in the so-called "sacello" of Bewcastle Roman Fort and preserved today in the stores of Carlisle museum. Three of them had already been identified and briefly presented by Prof Hella Eckardt, while the fourth was unpublished. At first, context and objects will be analysed one by one, then problems, both chronological and of provenance, will be stressed. At the end, a final note on the Bewcastle settlement and the "sacello" will be stated.

Grazie ad un accurato studio della documentazione d‟archivio conservata nel Tullie House Museum & Art Gallery Trust di Carlisle (UK), è stato possibile studiare quattro lucerne, ritrovate nel cosiddetto ′sacello′ del forte romano di Bewcastle e conservate oggi nei magazzini del museo di Carlisle. Di queste, tre erano già state individuate e brevemente presentate dalla prof.ssa Hella Eckardt, mentre la quarta è del tutto inedita. Ci si concentrerà inizialmente sull‟analisi dettagliata dei singoli oggetti, per poi spiegarne natura e problematiche; si passerà, dunque, ad una riflessione più generale sul castrum di Bewcastle e sul “sacello”
