In order to talk about the metamorphosis of the image of god, it is necessary to hypothesize multiple alternative solutions that over time assert themselves as solutions to the same problem, the above mentioned: “problem of god.” The author carries out his reasoning in such a perspective in order to focus on some features of the image of god in contemporary society. The same instance serves as a criterion for the selection of the sociological theory to be employed. The first paragraph is devoted to a sociological analysis of the “problem of god.” The second paragraph to some of the aspects of the same problem ongoing metamorphosis. Finally, the third paragraph deals with some of the relevant aspects of the social conditions in which in present times the evangelizing praxis of the Catholic Church has to deal with because of the metamorphosis.
