This chapter deals with the ways young people and their linguistic practices are represented in telecinematic dialogue. In exploring the large body of academic work on youth language in film and television, it will attempt to answer the following questions: How are young people made to talk on screen? Which traits are privileged and which over-/under-represented? How has screen youth language been translated? What challenges does it pose to translators? The chapter will address these questions with a particular focus on Anglophone media and their translation in a variety of cultural contexts.
