The contribution reflects on the relationship between global and local citizenship and on the forms of participation born “from below”, electing Lampedusa as a pedagogical workshop. The island, in fact, land of landings and production of rhetoric and imagery on migration, in recent years has also been a laboratory of new inclusive practices thanks to the use of stories, especially those of images alone. Indeed, democracies need “narrative imagination”, particularly on the border, to dismantle securitarian postures and deconstruct the intangible frontiers that insidiously feed fears of the Other. Thanks to the library promoted by the international organization IBBY (International Board on Book for Young people), a first refuge was offered to girls and boys and borders were expanded, building bridges and making gestures of encounter and welcome, as in the “Books on board” and “No border books” projects that reaffirm the right to live a safe and happy childhood.

Abstract
The contribution reflects on the relationship between global and local citizenship and on the forms of participation born “from below”, electing Lampedusa as a pedagogical workshop. The island, in fact, land of landings and production of rhetoric and imagery on migration, in recent years has also been a laboratory of new inclusive practices thanks to the use of stories, especially those of images alone. Indeed, democracies need “narrative imagination”, particularly on the border, to dismantle securitarian postures and deconstruct the intangible frontiers that insidiously feed fears of the Other. Thanks to the library promoted by the international organization IBBY (International Board on Book for Young people), a first refuge was offered to girls and boys and borders were expanded, building bridges and making gestures of encounter and welcome, as in the “Books on board” and “No border books” projects that reaffirm the right to live a safe and happy childhood.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
