The main objective of the article is to re-read and re-contextualise P.Ital. 3, a particularly controversial papyrus document that has long been included in the debates on the economic changes between Late Antiquity and the Early Middle Ages: it would attest to a manorial system («sistema curtense») in the Padua countryside as early as the sixth century. A new overall interpretation of the document, based on papyrological, topographical and historical-patrimonial analysis, can thus clarify some of the problematic points it has so far raised in the historiographical debate.

Abstract
The main objective of the article is to re-read and re-contextualise P.Ital. 3, a particularly controversial papyrus document that has long been included in the debates on the economic changes between Late Antiquity and the Early Middle Ages: it would attest to a manorial system («sistema curtense») in the Padua countryside as early as the sixth century. A new overall interpretation of the document, based on papyrological, topographical and historical-patrimonial analysis, can thus clarify some of the problematic points it has so far raised in the historiographical debate.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
