The paper is aimed at an overall analysis of the monumental stadiums known in Asia Minor. The starting point is the identification of these monuments, an aspect complicated by various factors, such as the fragmented state of knowledge as well as doubtful if not incorrect identifications (ancient as well as recent). Starting from established cases, some considerations pertinent to the developments of architectural typology and the role of buildings in urban and historical contexts are proposed.
