La biblioteca di Francesco Petrarca, tra storia e progetto culturale

The article reconstructs the various phases of growth of Petrarch's library and retraces the author's testimonies on its consistency and its ideal functions: the library, the only space where time acquires value, allows it to overcome the spatial and temporal boundaries that they separate him from his favorite authors and to build a longed-for res publica litterarum; through the humanization of books, a discreet crowd of friends, and the continuous dialogue with them, Petrarch exalts the virtue of the works and authors, proposing an ethical model to contemporaries and posterity.

L’articolo ricostruisce le varie fasi di accrescimento della biblioteca di Petrarca e ripercorre le testimonianze dell’autore sulla sua consistenza e le sue funzioni ideali: la biblioteca, unico spazio dove il tempo acquista valore, gli consente di superare i confini spaziali e temporali che lo separano dagli autori prediletti e di costruire una vagheggiata res publica litterarum; attraverso l’umanizzazione dei libri, discreta folla di amici, e il continuo dialogo con essi, Petrarca esalta la virtù delle opere e degli autori, proponendo un modello etico ai contemporanei e ai posteri.
