L’articolo tematizza la questione dell’indole umana chiedendosi perché e come essa abbia a che fare con la pedagogia. Indaga le morfologie dell’indole fra genetica ed epigenetica, scoprendone il principio di pertinenza con la Bildung nella dialettica tra originarietà e trasformazione. Ipotizzando altresì che esista un’indole sociale, il saggio giunge infine a considerare l’assoluto e il relativo dell’indole nel rapporto tra vero e falso, giusto e ingiusto, bene e male, bello e brutto.
