The contribution proposes to ‘problematise’ the cancel culture starting from a very precise perspective, that of children’s narratives, and therefore from the analysis of certain rewritings and/or new productions aimed at eliminating expressions linked to meanings considered no longer socially acceptable and therefore offensive or, for example, those passages that exalt a colonialist, misogynist and racist culture. Such processes, certainly fuelled by the media that have reshaped the collective imagination, end up, in some cases, by decontextualising, revealing rhetoric and ambiguities. They question us as teachers and educators by confronting us with an operation of ‘revisionism’ that risks compromising the promotion of a critical attitude towards those very postures that we set out to oppose and combat, neglecting the fact that the true and most authentic literature challenges visions, ideas, certainties and sensitivities and also restores voices from the margin.
