The article investigates the relationship between sound, space, music and time in the film "2001: A Space Odyssey" (1968), while at the same time seeking some influences of Severino Boezio in an equally «philosophical» director such as Stanley Kubrick. The essay shows how Kubrick uses the soundtrack as a structuring element of the narration, building an audio visual universe in which the idea of sound as a static acoustic element, expressed by Ligeti’s avant-garde aesthetics, and music as a traditional language, represented by the works of the Strauss, become symbolic vehicles of different meanings.

Abstract
The article investigates the relationship between sound, space, music and time in the film "2001: A Space Odyssey" (1968), while at the same time seeking some influences of Severino Boezio in an equally «philosophical» director such as Stanley Kubrick. The essay shows how Kubrick uses the soundtrack as a structuring element of the narration, building an audio visual universe in which the idea of sound as a static acoustic element, expressed by Ligeti’s avant-garde aesthetics, and music as a traditional language, represented by the works of the Strauss, become symbolic vehicles of different meanings.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
