Following Holford-Strevens’ invitation to reconstruct the traces of the historical figure of Probus, this article, with a view to a new edition of the fragments, aims to revisit the question of Probus’ legacy, with particular attention to determining how much of what appears in the grammars of Charisius, Diomedes, and Priscian can be genuinely attributed to the grammarian of Beirut, and how much instead originates from existing works falsely ascribed to him.
