The present study provides detailed temperature-dependent measurements for the relaxor composition of isovalent (Hf4+) substituted BaTiO3 (BTO), specifically BaTi0.6Hf0.4O3. The observations reveal distinct structural modifications associated with its dielectric maxima. By combining these results with our earlier findings on Sn4+ substituted BTO (Surampalli et al., 2019; Dhanetwal et al., 2024), the study highlights the critical role of atomic-scale structural changes in determining the relaxor properties of iso-valent substituted BTO-based materials. These insights contribute to a deeper understanding of relaxors, offering valuable guidance for the development of lead-free relaxors beyond phenomenological models.

Abstract
