The paper stars from the realization of the current scenario as dominated by two interpretations on rekindling of rivalry between the great powers: historical determinism and extreme voluntarism. Both, Both approaches, rooted in reactionary or conservative moral and ideological positions, ignore the complexity of historical sociology. Through the analysis of Raymond Aron’s works, the scientific value of such a theoretical-methodological approach is confirmed in order to well understand international relations.
