The early 1990s marked the opening of new horizons, from the end of the Cold War to a renewed interest in extra-European visual expressions. In this context, claims of a national genius loci seemed distant. Yet, in 1992, the Dioce cultural project was launched in Turin, explicitly placing the revival of this concept at the heart of its objectives. Framed both in European and Turin-specific terms, the genius loci here was linked to the assertion of Italian and European artistic value, as a counterpoint to the homogenizing tendencies of the contemporary cultural system and the influence of the American model. However, this re-evaluation was pursued through the exhibition of abstract art, one of the artistic languages most open to dialogue with international experiences, including those from North America.

Abstract
The early 1990s marked the opening of new horizons, from the end of the Cold War to a renewed interest in extra-European visual expressions. In this context, claims of a national genius loci seemed distant. Yet, in 1992, the Dioce cultural project was launched in Turin, explicitly placing the revival of this concept at the heart of its objectives. Framed both in European and Turin-specific terms, the genius loci here was linked to the assertion of Italian and European artistic value, as a counterpoint to the homogenizing tendencies of the contemporary cultural system and the influence of the American model. However, this re-evaluation was pursued through the exhibition of abstract art, one of the artistic languages most open to dialogue with international experiences, including those from North America.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
