A life for a Free Palestine: an interview with Luisa Morgantini

When we speak of Gaza, there is a before and after 7 October 2023. More than two years have passed since that terrible day, but the anguish remains the same; a tragedy is still unfolding, one which we describe, with shame and frustration, as ‘the genocide of the Palestinian people’. Faced with this shame, it helps to revisit Don Milani, who, in his ‘Pastoral Experiences’, wrote: ‘Friends often ask me how I manage to teach. […] They’re asking the wrong question; they shouldn’t be concerned with how to teach, but only with how one must be in order to teach.” We discuss this with Luisa Morgantini: a life spent defending the Palestinian people and the “Women in Black”; a constant and far-reaching commitment to achieving peace as a citizen of the world, but also as Vice-President of the European Parliament and at the helm of Assopace Palestina.

Quando si parla di Gaza c’è un prima e un dopo il 7 ottobre 2023. Sono passati più di due anni da quel terribile giorno, ma l’angoscia è la stessa; si sta ancora consumando una tragedia, che definiamo, con vergogna e frustrazione, "il genocidio del popolo palestinese". Di fronte a questa vergogna ci aiuta rileggere Don Milani, che, nelle sue "Esperienze Pastorali" scriveva: "spesso gli amici mi chiedono come faccio a far scuola. […] Sbagliano la domanda, non dovrebbero preoccuparsi di come bisogna fare scuola, ma solo di come bisogna essere per poter fare scuola”. Ne parliamo con Luisa Morgantini: una vita spesa in difesa del popolo palestinese, delle “donne in nero”; un impegno costante e capillare per raggiungere la pace da cittadina del mondo, ma anche da vicepresidente del Parlamento europeo e alla guida di Assopace Palestina.
