On the centenary of Mauro Laeng's birth (1926-2004), this article provides a historiographical reconstruction of the trajectory of his pedagogical thought through his prolific scientific output and exchanges with international scholars, following the path he himself traced in an unpublished autobiographical document. What emerges is the profile of an intellectual who was able to combine epistemological rigor and interdisciplinary tension, thus making a significant contribution to the pedagogical debate of the late 20th century, thanks to his solid philosophical training. From his reflections on education in a technological civilization to his editorship of the Enciclopedia pedagogica, from science teaching to that of play and museology, Laeng promoted a global and holistic vision of the sciences of education that is still relevant to this day
