This contribution re-examines the representation of the Aegisthos-slaying (Aigisthophonia) in Attic vase-painting from the Late Archaic to the Early Classical period, showing that the de-velopment of the myth did not strictly follow narrative models derived from literary tradition. Through an integrated reading of form, function, and compositional strategies, the analysis demonstrates how Attic workshops reshaped the myth by intervening in the construction of scenes, the selection of characters, and gestural conventions. In doing so, they translated con-temporary political tensions and market demands into coherent iconographic choices. The resulting framework highlights the expressive autonomy of vase-painting and its capacity to construct and transform meaning.
