This article investigates how the stratification of time in space can acquire visual and narrative form. Drawing on Michel de Certeau’s reflections on the memory of places, Freud’s image of a Rome in which buildings from different periods coexist within the same space, and Georges Didi-Huberman’s account of anachronism, it proposes stratigraphy and the atlas as complementary models for understanding the coexistence of heterogeneous temporalities. Richard McGuire’s graphic novel Here (2014) and Robert Zemeckis’s film adaptation (2024) provide an opportunity to examine how these models operate in the construction of images and narrative. In both works, a fixed viewpoint and the opening of windows onto different periods make the memory accumulated in a place perceptible. Comparing page and screen brings into focus the distinct formal means through which each medium configures time as a plurality of coexisting moments rather than a linear succession of events.

Abstract
Comparing page and screen brings into focus the distinct formal means through which each medium configures time as a plurality of coexisting moments rather than a linear succession of events.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
