We describe and estimate two traditional models of the determinants of public expenditure, the first suggested by Musgrave and Rostow, the second by O’Connor, in relation to the Italian case for the period 1960- 2008. After a brief introduction where is shown the economic theory, the two models are described and estimated. Then are discussed our empirical results for these models. Finally, we suggest some considerations on desirable expenditure policies.

Abstract
We describe and estimate two traditional models of the determinants of public expenditure, the first suggested by Musgrave and Rostow, the second by O’Connor, in relation to the Italian case for the period 1960- 2008. After a brief introduction where is shown the economic theory, the two models are described and estimated. Then are discussed our empirical results for these models. Finally, we suggest some considerations on desirable expenditure policies.File in questo prodotto:
