This paper discusses the birth and development of the new textual paradigm embodied today in digital forms of writing. The historical roots of this paradigm-shift can be traced back to the theoretical and literary movements of the 1930s, especially in Italy and France. It follows an exploration of the links and relationships between this open and dynamic conception of the literary work and that of the psychology of composition. The article concludes with the illustration of an online experiment for the representation of the textual genesis of several poems of the Italian writer Valerio Magrelli.
