This research stems from the need of assessing a power plant or an energy source on mere physical basis, leaving aside any other parameter which can be affected by men such as the economic, financial, and social ones. As such, we hereby explore a new approach to the analysis of profitability. This approach is based on the Energy Return on Energy Investment (EROEI) index, which is still quite neglected especially in Italy. The aim of the research is to highlight the strengths of the EROEI index in order to understand whether the EROEI index will increase its use in the future with reference to the analysis of the power plants profitability, provided that further research will improve the method.

Abstract
This research stems from the need of assessing a power plant or an energy source on mere physical basis, leaving aside any other parameter which can be affected by men such as the economic, financial, and social ones. As such, we hereby explore a new approach to the analysis of profitability. This approach is based on the Energy Return on Energy Investment (EROEI) index, which is still quite neglected especially in Italy. The aim of the research is to highlight the strengths of the EROEI index in order to understand whether the EROEI index will increase its use in the future with reference to the analysis of the power plants profitability, provided that further research will improve the method.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
