Two groups of Italian secondary school students (n=343; 18.2% males and 81.8% females, ages 17 - 19), were enrolled to answer a 77 items work values questionnaire. Through the three-way multidimensional scaling, a work value structure of relation characterized by two orthogonal bipolar dimensions: Conservation vs. Exploration and Individuality vs. Sociality was found. Values of cooperation appear to be those which most strongly oppose values of power, while values of belongingness appear to be highly compatible with those of stability and security.

Abstract

Two groups of Italian secondary school students (n=343; 18.2% males and 81.8% females, ages 17 - 19), were enrolled to answer a 77 items work values questionnaire. Through the three-way multidimensional scaling, a work value structure of relation characterized by two orthogonal bipolar dimensions: Conservation vs. Exploration and Individuality vs. Sociality was found. Values of cooperation appear to be those which most strongly oppose values of power, while values of belongingness appear to be highly compatible with those of stability and security.
