In addition, the cultural implications of the merging of Pound’s and James’ respective “voices,” and the complexities of the intertextual reverberations of the two texts, and personae, are seen within the elliptic, lyric narrative of the Cantos.

Abstract

A contribution to the 21st Ezra Pound International Conference (EPIC) on “Ezra Pound, Language and Persona.” The essay focuses on Pound’s memoir Indiscretions, in which he adopts – in a disguised and sometimes satirical mode – the “small boy” voice, or perspective, that Henry James himself decided to use in his own autobiography A Small Boy and Others. In addition, the cultural implications of the merging of Pound’s and James’ respective “voices,” and the complexities of the intertextual reverberations of the two texts, and personae, are seen within the elliptic, lyric narrative of the Cantos.
