Abstract

We consider a simple and effective solution for unbundling the local loop in optical access networks, based on the orthogonal frequency division multiplexing technique, without coherent detection. The proposed architecture has a reduced power consumption and allows a flexible and scalable resource assignment among the operators and/or the users. System performances are numerically investigated, evaluating the bit error rate and the error vector magnitude parameters for different link reaches, number of users and modulation formats.
