The essay presents the results of researches and trainings carried out by the Working Group directed by Antonio Pugliano in the context of the Laboratory of Architectural Restoration of the Architecture Department at "Roma Tre" University, in accordance with relevant national Institutions responsible for the protection of the Cultural Heritage and the practice of the Professions relating to Restoration projects (MiBAC-ICCD, MiBAC-SSBAR; PPC Architectural Council). This activity arises from a range of experiences carried out in the recent years by the same group of studies, under the direction of Paolo Marconi and the coordination of the undersigned, on the subject of database production turned to the characterization of the architectures and the national urban sites with historical, artistic and anthropological interest. First experience in this direction was, at the end of the 90’s, the production of Atlante dei Centri Storici Italiani esposti al Rischio Sismico (“Atlas of Italian Historic Places exposed to the Seismic Risk”) and its digitizing database, realized for the Premiership - National Seismic Service. In this occasion we have proceeded with the development and the testing of a method useful to the characterization of architectures and urban sites. To this line of research, studies on traditional architectural lexicons are related too, in order to recover and validate them on the occasion of the restoration; they are carried out for the University and Scientific Research Education Ministry - CNR, as part of the Active Projects of State Administration (Research line n. 1 "Le tecniche di intervento tradizionale: recupero, aggiornamento, validazione” – Traditional techniques of intervention: recovery, updating, validation) and for some municipalities that wished provide themselves with Recovering Manuals or Codes of Practice. Last experience, in chronological order, is constituted by the realization and circulation of the recent Architecture Thesaurus, commissioned by MiBAC-ICCD at "Roma Tre" University to develop linguistic standards necessary to protect and catalogue the Cultural Architectural Heritage. On the base of these premises the activity, currently, is directed to the foundation and experimental check of a system with integrated activities of research and training for the documentation, preservation and management of specific environmental contexts, both natural and anthropological, both living (historical centres) and archaeological. The conservation, with seismic safety, of buildings and sites and their enhancement for the purposes of tourist use, is designed by identifying and characterizing the possible material and immaterial attractions, distinctive for the several places considered. The system is based on the development of the analyzing methodologies and management procedures of the information produced during cognitive and planning actions, carried out by architects and archaeologists together, within an educational context intent to fully document the sites and schedule the enhancement. The results of the teaching activity, mainly on the field, and applied research consist in formation of digital platforms, with its appropriate compiling glossary, through which to relate a range of selected and standardized information, necessary to a conscious planning of the conservative measures and an efficient management, in time, of the technical interventions for maintenance, restoration and enhancement.
