In this work a theoretical investigation is performed on the sloshing for both 2D and 3D free-surface configurations. Applying a suitable variational method to the potential formulation of the fluid motion, a low-dimensional dynamical system is derived by using an experimental technique based on the Karhunen-Loeve decomposition of the free surface. Numerical integration of such dynamical system gives interesting solutions in good agreement with experimental data.

Abstract
In this work a theoretical investigation is performed on the sloshing for both 2D and 3D free-surface configurations. Applying a suitable variational method to the potential formulation of the fluid motion, a low-dimensional dynamical system is derived by using an experimental technique based on the Karhunen-Loeve decomposition of the free surface. Numerical integration of such dynamical system gives interesting solutions in good agreement with experimental data.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
