The author discusses a documentary source on Romanian history, published in italian language ad almost ignored today, in spite of the fact that it drew the attention of some scholars and enjoyed considerable notoriety between the 18th and the 19th century: a book written by Stefan Ignaz Raicevich. A native of Ragusa, he was at the service of the Austrian emperor, serving as consul at the Courts of Bucharest and Iasi from 1782 to 1786. The title of his work was Osservazioni storiche naturali e politiche intorno la valcchia e Moldavia.
