Abstract

The architectural restauration teaching in Italy has today to consider the rehabilitation of the smaller historical centers which, starting from the postwar period, have been victim of depopulation and abandonment. Nowadays it is strongly felt the necessity to bring back to life these places where the greatest part of the socio-cultural identity, of the architectural and environmental values, and of the memories of the Italian past coagulate. The aim of the didactic experimentations that we are conducting and that we present is to give to the students the tools to understand, recognize and therefore to restore such values. The didactics, carried out in relevant urban restauration courses and workshops, is articulated in two following moments. The initial activity, after preliminary theoretical-formative meetings, is executed directly on site to do the investigations on the building fabric historical-formative process and the architectural survey. The following phase is the elaboration of a general project of restoration and reuse aiming to stimulate a virtuous process to safeguard the maintenance of the cultural heritage beauty and to limit a further consumption of the territory
