Aim of the paper is to develop a micromechanical model of the constitutive behavior of the SMA composite with elastic matrix. The overall behavior of long fibers SMA composites is determined on the base of classical homogenization procedures. The thermo-mechanical behavior of the composite is governed by the martensite volume fraction of the SMA wires. It is assumed that the martensite volume fraction depends on the wire temperature and only on the normal stress acting in the fiber direction, since the normal stress in the fiber direction represents the main stress in the composite. The model takes into account the superelastic and shape memory effects in the SMA. Numerical applications are developed in order to analyze the thermo-mechanical behavior of the SMA composite, influenced by the superelastic and shape memory effects occurring in the SMA wires.
