This paper stems from the analysis of the relationship between Russia and the European Union in migration matters. As time reference, it covers the period that goes from the European Council in Tampere in October 1999, when the common EU immigration policy has been officially called for, until the present. The paper spans the pre- and post-EU enlargement scenario so to consider the interactions in migration between the two political actors during the process of the Eastward expansion.
