The contribution intends to present theoretical reflections on the role of drawing, on its technical and expressive values, in the sphere of architectural design in a period in which, more and more, this sector seems to be driven by technological and applicative development alone. In particular, the graphic work of architect Francesco Cellini was chosen, a refined draughtsman and representative of contemporary architectural culture with deep historical roots and artistic references. Presented here are drawings that span the entire course of his career and testify to the central role of drawing in his design thinking. In his drawings, it is possible to trace both utopian and imaginative values as well as rational and rigorously geometric ones, always influenced by deep memories, both historical-architectural and referable to the natural contexts in which he operates. The contribution wants to participate in the need for beauty in a period marked by difficult events involving all humanity.
