In this contribution, we look at some recent applications of metasurfaces and we highlight their potential in the scenario of next-generation wireless systems. We show how metasurfaces allow overcoming some limiting effects of the environment on wireless systems, and we discuss their fundamental role in the practical development of smart electromagnetic environments.

Abstract
