Many contradictions emerge to help us to redefine the role of theoretical thought and ideology in the construction of the existing city. It is not irrelevant in this sense, the role played by Pagano studies on rural architecture, seen as the ultimate expression of independence of architecture from style. Both “the Milan green” and the “Horizontal city” look more and more distant from a the German model of new city. The rhetoric of Rationalism must deal with the medium size of the Italian architecture and the Italian cities. The interest of contemporary studies of the two projects is that they have both a program, that is logical order of data and objectives, and a diagram, show that the shift from the organization to formalization.
