The paper briefly examines the Via Nova in Arabia: the road built in the aftermath of the Roman annexation of the region. The characteristics and dynamics of construction are analysed, mainly linked to the use of the Roman soldiers who were involved in the annexation. The Via Nova (or “the new road”) was an extremely important novelty in the region, above all due to the fact that it affected areas that were not very urbanized and characterized by the presence of the desert or in any case sparsely inhabited.

Abstract

The paper briefly examines the Via Nova in Arabia: the road built in the aftermath of the Roman annexation of the region. The characteristics and dynamics of construction are analysed, mainly linked to the use of the Roman soldiers who were involved in the annexation. The Via Nova (or “the new road”) was an extremely important novelty in the region, above all due to the fact that it affected areas that were not very urbanized and characterized by the presence of the desert or in any case sparsely inhabited.
