Approximately 209 million tons of glass are produced globally each year, making recycling essential for resource conservation and environmental protection. Despite its high recovery rate, losses occur during collection, sorting, and waste distribution. This literature review explores current technologies, challenges, and future opportunities to improve efficiency in glass recycling. It highlights the role of collection systems, with segregated models and Deposit Return Schemes (DRS) proving more effective. Technological innovations in automated sorting, impurity removal, and treatment are advancing the sector. Improving collection and processing is key to optimizing glass recovery, reducing losses, and ensuring long-term sustainability in the circular economy.

Abstract
Approximately 209 million tons of glass are produced globally each year, making recycling essential for resource conservation and environmental protection. Despite its high recovery rate, losses occur during collection, sorting, and waste distribution. This literature review explores current technologies, challenges, and future opportunities to improve efficiency in glass recycling. It highlights the role of collection systems, with segregated models and Deposit Return Schemes (DRS) proving more effective. Technological innovations in automated sorting, impurity removal, and treatment are advancing the sector. Improving collection and processing is key to optimizing glass recovery, reducing losses, and ensuring long-term sustainability in the circular economy.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
