The research examines whether cultural engagement moderates gender disparities in SWB within a large metropolitan area. Using survey data collected in Rome, we analyse multiple forms of cultural participation, including museums, live performances, cinema, libraries, and bookshops. The results show that the gender gap in SWB is substantial among cultural non-participants but progressively narrows, and in some cases disappears, as participation intensity and diversification increase. Stronger convergence effects emerge in meaning-rich and socially connective cultural experiences, particularly live performances and museum participation.

Abstract
The research examines whether cultural engagement moderates gender disparities in SWB within a large metropolitan area. Using survey data collected in Rome, we analyse multiple forms of cultural participation, including museums, live performances, cinema, libraries, and bookshops. The results show that the gender gap in SWB is substantial among cultural non-participants but progressively narrows, and in some cases disappears, as participation intensity and diversification increase. Stronger convergence effects emerge in meaning-rich and socially connective cultural experiences, particularly live performances and museum participation.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
