The article examines the potential of audiovisual media as a resource for teaching and learning History, with particular attention to archival footage and found-footage practices. The methodology adopted combines a hermeneutic approach – aimed at understanding the logics of production, selection, and reuse of images – with a pedagogical perspective focused on media education. The overarching aim of the article is to analyze the educational implications of archival practices, showing how creativity – understood as a form of reworking and a mode of knowledge – serves as a privileged pathway for cultivating an active and nuanced relationship with the past, while fostering historical, critical, and media literacy skills.
