The essay reconstructs the occurrences of two classical literary τόποι in De Romano Imperio ac eius iurisdictione by the humanist jurist Francesco Giovannetti (1510 ca.-1586). With the first reference, the author, quoting Euripides’ fragment 828K, signals his ideological perspective on cities and their inhabitants. Concerning the second one, by evoking the myth of Rome as city/world and the Translatio Imperii, the jurist espouses the political dream of a universal Empire, cosmos of justice.
