The article presents a summary of the Reading Comprehension-Reciprocal Teaching research project (RCRT) carried out by the S.Ap.I.E Association in order to promote the development of reading comprehension in primary schools. Taking into account the identification of a particularly relevant problem, such as the low level of reading comprehension in Italian schools, the comparison with the evidence already acquired in the international literature has allowed the research group to identify in Reciprocal Teaching the most promising frame of reference for the development of an inclusive educational intervention program, tested in fourth grade. The evaluation of the experimentation, conducted with a consistent national sample, showed the effectiveness of the program, of which a reformulation is underway, optimizing it with all the suggestions and warnings necessary for it to be applied in all schools.
