This article outlines a research project carried out at Roma Tre University, aimed at employing Shakespeare’s theatre and the complexity of human emotions it brings into play as a didactic tool, with the goal of facilitating the development of key competences for lifelong learning. In 2019, the Department of Foreign Languages, Literatures and Cultures designed a PCTO (a school programme for the development of soft skills and for career orientation) for secondary schools in the Rome area. The PCTO took place in its first four editions (2019-2022) in collaboration with the Globe Theatre in Rome and was also held at the Palladium Theatre in Rome (2022). The last edition of the PCTO (2024) is part of the “PRIN 2022 - Applied Shakespeare” project, which aims to experiment with an applied methodology focused on the educational use of Shakespearean theatre.
