This study investigates the environmental impact of artificial intelligence (AI) through a bibliometric analysis of 490 academic articles published between 2004 and 2024. Using Bibliometrix and VOSviewer, it identifies key trends, authors, journals, and thematic clusters, highlighting AI’s dual role as both a driver of sustainable innovation and a source of environmental challenges. The analysis reveals research gaps, such as limited geographic perspectives and insufficient lifecycle assessments. Adopting a multidisciplinary approach, the study connects AI, sustainability, and service management, offering theoretical and practical insights to optimize resource use, reduce waste, and promote environmentally conscious service delivery

Abstract
This study investigates the environmental impact of artificial intelligence (AI) through a bibliometric analysis of 490 academic articles published between 2004 and 2024. Using Bibliometrix and VOSviewer, it identifies key trends, authors, journals, and thematic clusters, highlighting AI’s dual role as both a driver of sustainable innovation and a source of environmental challenges. The analysis reveals research gaps, such as limited geographic perspectives and insufficient lifecycle assessments. Adopting a multidisciplinary approach, the study connects AI, sustainability, and service management, offering theoretical and practical insights to optimize resource use, reduce waste, and promote environmentally conscious service delivery| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
